Deva Citadel, a historical and architectural landmark, was built in the 13th century on Citadel Hill, a volcanic cone located at an altitude of 378 m. Strategically positioned, the fortification played an essential role in defending the access route to Transylvania via the Mureș Valley, witnessing centuries of history. Archaeological discoveries in the area attest to habitation since the Neolithic and Bronze Ages, and the existence of some carved stone blocks suggest possible vestiges of a previous Dacian fortification.
Today, Deva Citadel remains a symbol of the city and a cultural and tourist reference point. The main objective of the rehabilitation works was to preserve this historical heritage, consolidate its structure and improve visitor access, without affecting the architectural authenticity of the monument.
The intervention on the Deva Fortress involved complex restoration and consolidation works of the existing structures, carried out with respect for the historical authenticity of the monument. Being a medieval fortification with an atypical location, the project required specialized technical solutions to ensure the stability of the walls and the discreet integration of the modern infrastructure needed by visitors.
